BUILD (Building University Inclusion and Leadership through Diversity), is a weeklong immersion program in Winston-Salem that introduces first-year students to concepts of social justice, intercultural communication, and social change. This year, the program will take place from August 19-22, 2017.
During the week, students work in teams to learn about various vibrant cultural communities in WInston-Salem. With their upper-class mentors, incoming students will consider their role and responsibility as citizens in Winston-Salem, identify social justice themes, and learn more about intercultural communication strategies. Students will visit nonprofit organizations, museums, and local agencies.
Participants are accepted on a rolling basis until July 15, 2017, with notification of acceptance sent within 10 days of applications being received. Specific program details will be available in early August.

Once you are accepted, you are required to submit a $325.00 participation fee. The fee covers all program activities, early move-in fees, transportation, and food for the program dates. You may pay by check or wire transfer:

Limited financial aid is available for students for which the program fee would be a financial burden. Students in need of financial aid should indicate so on their applications; we seek to provide funding for all participants. There are two ways that accepted students may pay for the program. No payment is required to apply.
